»miles mysteries« is inspired by goya’s late etchings. originated towards the end of his life when he was sick, his “black pictures” are timeless and omnipresent because we find ourselves in a mirror.
the piece is not a choreographic staging of his pictures, but an encounter on the traces of the human condition. Rage, disappointment, hopelessness, fear, melancholy and dreams held back in piles up and discharge in a cry. when normality and insanity are reversed, the height rises enormously, in no country, mysterious and yet no less real, populated by figures on the threshold between norm and delusion, light and shadow, appearance and disappearance – a vision of the bizarre.

»limnaios finds shockingly impressive images. when the carousel of images really gets going in the second half, one impression, one small scene, one short story follows the next. the nightmare birds not only overthrow the sleeping one (as in one of goya’s most famous caprichos), but also on the spectator. for all of this. this evening is not spared. it is not for nothing that the subtitle is called ›the screaming pictures‹. this impressive, strong evening ends with a piercing cry. limnaios has created a choreography with her expressive 7 dancers and the music of ralf ollertz, the pictures of which will accompany for a long time.« (www.hamburgtheater.de, b. schmalmack)

»toula limnaios updates the painter goya in ›miles mysteries‹. what is positive about the entire piece is limnaios ’sensitive feeling for composing exciting pictures. there are several excellent duets of strong, almost unbelievable inventiveness. this is the end result in disturbing pictures, with often tough dancing and an excellent crew.« (neues deutschland, v. draeger)
