»staubkinder« is inspired by the music of gustav mahler and is dedicated to the staubkinder that we are. they are deeply embedded in our individual and universal memories.
in »staubkinder« (children of dust) we let ourselves be carried away into an absurd and confusing world. a world similar to ours, with the critical aspects of the present, today’s complexity and this uncertain space called future. the children of dust are looking for a hold – the ground on which their feet stand is foreign to them. disturbing and poetic at the same time…
»in ›staubkinder‹ there is no inflated drama, but such an unsparingly clear view, also of the fears and crises that threaten to overwhelm us in our present. a really powerful piece. it takes time until the audience can free itself from such a kind of bias. and then cheers.«

»are we lost to the world? in >staubkinder< by toula limnaios, eight dancers create an unstable, surrealistic world. the title of the piece is a word created by the choreographer and at the same time a symbol of our current existence – in all its complexity, crisis and uncertainty about the future. the 6th movement of gustav mahler’s 3rd symphony in leonard bernstein’s interpretation gives expression to the alienation and emotional turmoil associated with these life circumstances. how does one find (back) into a state of harmony with oneself? where is the island one calls home? >dust<, so the hope, can be understood here not only as a gloomy symbol of transience, but at the same time as the unifying primal ground of all life.«
